Oh so lucky

or not...it's been a while since I published on my blog, but other things kept me busy. We had two funerals in one week, I had an ear infection (which still isn't over) during our holiday, our computer had an unwelcome virus (that's why I still can't download new pictures) and if that isn't enough our washing machine just broke down, and with two little boys I can tell that is a little disaster. To cheer up this message (and myself) a little I used pictures from our holiday last summer.

home at last

Roel was in Australia and New Zealand for work, tomorrow he will be home again. Sunday the weather was awful, rain all day, so my boys were very productive painters. I made a "welcome home" garland out of the paintings. I hope Roel likes the festive welcome made by the three of us.

forgotten birthday

I am not so good in remembering birthdays, a few weeks ago I forgot the birthday of a very nice colleague. So I decided to make her a namestamp, since I did a graphical course (last year) I'm into stamp making, I like it, it's fun and quite easy and quick result. She told me that as a child she never could find stickers, stamps or mugs with her name, so she was very suprised with her namestamp, at last she had one ;-). I also made some stickers with a bird stamp, one of my favourites.

little girl

Florien is born, she is the daughter of a friend. Her eldest son is born on the same day as my youngest, even almost at the same time, so amazing! I made Florien a bag with her name, so she can put in al her girly stuff.

My parents bought me this nice gift, they conquered it at a "marché aux puces". Ribbons, buttons and a sweet little book with felt figures. Now I have to figure out what to make with it.

blanket for the doll

with two boys we only have one doll among the toys, she has a hard time surviving between all the cars, so I decided she deserves a blanket. I made one out of a fabric I got from my mum. Stije loves it.

little bag for brushes

For my sisters birthday I made a folding bag for make up brushes (and mascara, lipgloss etc). I made one myself a year ago and since I am always using it for travelling I thought this should be a good gift for my sister. I hope she likes it. After finishing it I was thinking that I should have made the ribbons out of the lining fabric, next time better.

big brown bag

This weekend we visited good friends in Langweer who came over from the states. With easter, they visited holland as well and we had easter breakfast together, I made eggcovers for the children, so I decided it was time to make something for the mom. This big brown bag is the result, handy for extra luggage.

new colors

yesterday I bought some new felt...it colors my day.

monkey day

Because sunday was a rainy day, we decided to visit Naturalis in Leiden. We wanted to go there for a long time, but never went. It was great! Jilles enjoys books with animals a lot and here he could take a close look to all the animals. They had a game were children could feed the animals with different kind of food, when the animal didn't like the food, they shook their head and when they liked the food offered they opened their mouth, a nice way to teach children what different animals eat. The special exhibition is called like monkeys, like people (zo apen, zo mensen), which was really funny, asspecialy the mask, how simple can it be.

vlijtig gifts

this weekend we had a lovely day with friends (vlijtig), she made us some homemade cookies in a nice bag and a beautiful stamps for Jilles and Stije, which we can use together or separate!
We spend some time on the beach and the kids had a nice ride in the caroussel on the boulevard.

zipper

Yes, I made a felt bag with a zipper and lining! I am not so good in placing a zipper correct, but this time it turned out just fine. The lining is made of flannel, I love this material for it's softness.

partygift

What a suprise! I got an award from vlijtig. I just started blogging an already recieved this honour. This weekend I read a small article in a dutch magazine about blogging. It said that blogging makes you more happy, funny that I saw the article just now. But anyway, the award is a good reason to treat someone with a small gift. I considered a ceramic piece, but since it is hard to send by post, I made a felt animal keychain. I also added pictures of the process. For this animalform I got inspiration during clay modelling with my boys, a remainder mould of a christmas tree (yes, my boys clay christmas trees in the middle of summer) was lmost this shape, so an animal was born. If you leave a message the next two weeks, I pick the winner and post the keychain.

The award says that I have to pay it forward...so here we go:
verwonderland, because it's inspiration for enjoyable life.
vanmarieke, nice crafting with fun fabrics.
aunty cookie, because her fabrics make me smile and her blog is inspiring.

"new" dress

It makes me so happy when a little change in something makes a big difference. I had this dress for a while, but found it a bit boring, so I put an elastic cord in the seam with a safety-pin.

coat for the ipod

we didn't have a protective cover for our ipod, so I decided to make one myself. Although it is nice, I think I am going to make a new one which has also space for the chains and ear plugs. But I first will have to figure out how that looks like.

good old times

my sister and her family visited us last weekend, we had a great time. They gave us a present, which brings up memories, a holiday action book (vakantie doe boek). It's very amusing because it's not for children but for adult, "search the 10 differences", memory games, even coloring prints, it's all in there. It is made by fashion designer Hans Ubbink.

little star

last week a friend told me she is pregnant. great news, because I know she is going to be a great mom! I made her a felt star which makes a sound when you pinch it.

wrong color

This platter turned out quite well, but I didn't like the color when it came out of the oven, that's the difficulty with ceramic. Next time better.

finally finished

Because patterns are not my thing it took me a while to make these felt slippers. I got this ready-to-make parcel from a friend. I really like the slippers but wanted to make them more me, therefore I changed the design on the slippers. To my surprise they are quite comfortable.

crocodiles & ducks

Yesterday I forgot to take some bread for the ducks. My boys came up with a great idea; they decided to feed the wooden crocodile some branches, problem solved.

thin

I love to work with different kind of materials. Last week I decided with two friends we will follow a course on ceramics again. It's been two years since I finished years of courses on ceramics so it's time to get my hands dirty again with clay. I prefer to make my work very thin, it's fragile this way but I love the texture it gives the objects and it's always a surprise how it turns out in the oven.

reversible

After making this felt bag it turned out to be reversible. It surprised me and I am happy with the result, but I am not so happy with the handle so I am thinking of cutting of the handle (that is one of the benefits of working with felt, you can change it on the way) and make a different handle out of leather (smaller)…but I am not sure yet.

little owl

I already made this felt owl keychain for a friend of mine; she just finished her lovely new home. Because Jilles loved it so much I made him his own, he can use it to mark his backpack.

colorful felt

when I started crafting I didn't have a sewing machine and even didn't know how to operate one. Therefor I experimented with felt and I still love to work with it. This hanger I made for my youngest son.

farm animals

A son of friends of our turned one last weekend and since my boys love the animals of schleich so much, we bought him a few. I made a little bag so he can keep his collection together.

never lost

I always loose my stuff at home, like my phone, my wallet etc. Especially when I'm in a hurry before leaving I can't find my necessary asseccories, but believe it or not I never have to search for my keys, because I made a keycoard. I also never have to search for them in my bag, which is quit handy when I'm in front of the door with two little boys. I got bored with the old one, so I made this.

old curtains

Because my parents moved a few years ago, they have thrown a way a lot of the fabrics my mom had (she had a big collection). Luckely some fabrics survived. This is one of my favourites, old curtains. I made a keycoard out of it for my parents house (unfortunatly I don't have a picture of that). But I also made this pin cushion of it.

first steps

Yesterday my youngest son took his first steps alone. Making this first message for my blog feels the same! I'm inspired by vlijtig to make my own blog. This is such an amazing blog!
I love to create new things, from old (recycled) and new materials. Last year I followed a course on printing fabrics, it was nice, but I only made a few things with the fabrics, only gifts. So I decided to make something for myself. So yesterday I made this bag. I hope I can use it for all the extra paperwork at my job.
